Auto Body Shop Paint Issues: Bleeding

October 22nd, 2019 Posted by auto body paint, Autobody shop, car paint, car paint maintenance, Chesapeake Auto Body Paint, chesapeake body shop, Portsmouth Auto Body Paint, portsmouth body shop No Comment yet

When someone in a body shop or auto body shop says that your car is bleeding it might not be as good or as bad as you think. On the one hand bleeding is referring to your paint, which means your car is still running and is not a danger to yourself or others. That is good. On the other hand, bleeding means something is wrong with the paint and you have to deal with it or your car’s paint job is going to continue to look terrible. That is not so good.

What Is Auto Body Paint Bleeding?

Bleeding refers to a condition on your auto body paint where the original paint color is showing through a newer top paint color layer. Naturally the combination of both colors together is not going to look very good. The culprit is probably a poor job of removing the old paint. This undoubtedly will require work. Likewise, we have a solution for this problem.

Macks Body Shop Can Stop The Bleeding

Mack’s Body Shop can stop the bleeding. Granted, stopping the “bleeding”, referring to your auto body paint can sound a little dramatic on the surface. Regardless, it is true. Autobody Shop Tips: Watch Those Costs

September 26th, 2019 Posted by Autobody shop, chesapeake body shop, portsmouth body shop, suffolk body shop No Comment yet

When choosing your Autobody shop looks can be deceiving. Beautiful buildings, complimentary coffee service and seemingly endless amenities can lull you into a false sense of security. All of these benefits seem to be under the guise that they are free as part of your auto body repair. Well I may have some unpleasant news:

Your paying for those services

A business has to make a profit. That means those costs have to be passed on to the customer somewhere. The reality is you could receive a higher quote for work you could have done cheaper at another autobody shop.

What Matters For Auto Body Repairbody shop in chesapeake

Unless cost is not an issue, what matters is the work that is done in parts of the building that you will not be in. Planning, grinding, painting and hours of meticulous work go into restoring your car, truck, or suv. And what matters is you drive away with a beautifully restored car and truck at the lowest price point you can get for good quality body work.

So What That Cup Of Coffee Really Costs

So when you walk in the door of your Autobody Shop look around. Every employee, every office worker, every square foot of the land that building is on, and even that deluxe coffee machine is being added to the cost somewhere. So make sure that cup of coffee, or the belief that it is free, is not costing you hundreds of dollars you don’t need to pay.

Winter Car Care Tips From The Auto Body Shop

January 3rd, 2019 Posted by auto body paint, body shop, car paint, car paint maintenance, chesapeake body shop, portsmouth body shop, suffolk body shop, tips No Comment yet

The iceman cometh and your car’s body will suffer

As a body shop there is nothing like the look of someone’s face when there beloved truck, car or suv has been restored. It is a great feeling redoing the paint job or getting dents out after a wreck. And as much as we love to do it, we want you to avoid situations that can damage that paint or exterior.

body shop winter tips

Bring on the Winter…

The Winter months pose a threat to that car body in a lot of different ways. Some are seemingly innocent. You go outside after a snowfall and your car is covered in powdery snow and ice. Naturally you go to remove the snow. Guess what, do it wrong and you can damage the paint.

Winter Deicing And Snow Removal Without Car Body Damage Tips

Here are pitfalls you want to avoid. If you deice or scrape your car wrong, you are going to look pretty scratched and dinged up come Spring. Here are some situations to avoid:

The Car Is Covered In Snow…

You come outside and your vehicle is covered in lots of puffy snow…So you grab the snow shovel to dust that car off. You may remove the snow but that shovel will scratch the paint. Shovels have sharp metal edges that can destroy your paint job.

The Solution:

Make sure to a get a tool that says it will not scratch your car or auto body paint. What is the point of removing snow if you cost yourself thousands in repairs. You could even use your hand but make sure to avoid things with sharp edges.

Not So Nice..Ice

Say you come out and your car has a layer of ice coating the doors, hood, and just about everywhere else. You grab the ice scraper tool and scrape the windows.. Once done you decide to use the scraper tool on the car body. But before you do keep in mind, it will damage the paint.

The Solution:

Scraper tools are designed for windows, not paint. A better way is to let the car heat up and let ice melt away  independently of the scraper tool. Then use your hands to pick pieces of ice away.

Salt: Double Threat

Salt can pose two big threats.  One, it can corrode your vehicle’s body if left there for a long time. Two, if you try to rub it off it can scratch and degrade your automobile’s finish.

The Solution: Wash It Off

When you can, wash that salt off and let the water remove it from the vehicle’s body

And when you need Auto body or car body work done..Come See Us At Mack’s. We can work with your insurance carrier.

And as always..Be Safe This Winter

Causes Of Wheel Noise

Mysterious Noises Coming From Your Tires…

June 1st, 2018 Posted by body shop, chesapeake body shop, portsmouth body shop, tips, tires No Comment yet

There is no end to the maintenance you have to consider when you own a car, truck, or anything with pistons and an axle. There are hundreds of parts, lots of friction, and inevitable wear and tear. And no area is that more evident, than with your tires.

Even if your tires are not flat they seem to always be communicating to you something is not right. From all types of vibrations to other ominous noises, they always need something. And the minute we sense them, we turn into tire detectives to resolve the problem before we get a flat tire or worse.

So here is a quick checklist of things that could be causing the tire noise or vibration menace:

  • Wheel bearings are malfunctioning
  • Faulty Ball Joints
  • Faulty Tie Ends
  • Tires are worn down
  • Tires are poorly inflated
  • Poorly balanced tires
  • Faulty Brake Disc
  • Faulty Brake Pads
  • Bad Axle

Wow that is a lot. Getting it fixed, while tedious, can prevent even bigger problems with your vehicle, so take care of those tires.

Body Shop Tips: Getting The Estimate

March 6th, 2018 Posted by body shop, chesapeake body shop, portsmouth body shop, suffolk body shop, tips No Comment yet

body shop in chesapeake, vaGetting An Estimate for Body Work On Your Car

One thing to never forget, is that the process of getting an estimate is vital to your wallet. This is, in itself, is an art form. The most obvious ramification of this is to visit more than one body shop in Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Or Virginia Beach. This sounds easy but when your car needs to be fixed you may feel rushed. Don’t do it. Patience is a virtue when selecting an auto body repair shop. In fact the lack of patience could cost you thousands of wasted dollars and leave you with sub par work. So maybe a better way to phrase it is:

Have Patience When Selecting Your Auto Shop And Get Multiple Estimates

So you got the autobody estimates, now what…

Not all the estimates look the same. You probably notice line items do not match up perfectly. So take the estimates back to the shops and ask them why one item is on another quote and not the one they gave you. This process will do a lot for you. First you will see how they handle objections. Second, you can make sure you are actually getting a good deal with that lower total quote.

body shop in chesapeakeMaybe that lower total quote isn’t lower at all…

Make sure it is an apples to apples comparison. Are they using brand name parts or generics. How many of your type of car have they worked on. Naturally if you have restored twenty Hyundai’s, you will know a lot more about the nuances of doing them than someone who has never fixed one. I say take it a step further. Ask for a reference from someone who had a similar car to yours. It does not hurt to ask.

Speaking Of Car Repair References..

Word of mouth and reviews still are critical in this process. Early in the process of searching for an autobody repair dealer, start getting lots of feedback in the form of reviews and recommendations. There is a lot to lose, so it is worth it to spend lots of time getting this kind of information.

Focus On Quality..Not Just The Bottom Line

It is tempting to focus on the lowest quote number. But that kind of quote can mean shoddy parts, poor service, and subpar work. In the long run, you did not save a dime. See the big picture when you are selecting. Choose the greatest value to you and your car, in the short and long term.

Autobody Shop Advice

January 9th, 2018 Posted by brakes, chesapeake body shop, portsmouth body shop No Comment yet

As an Autobody Shop serving Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, and Western Branch, part of our business is fixing cars that have faced some damage..a lot of damage. But we would rather you be free of repairs, breakdowns, accidents, and fender benders. Thus we have put together some pointers here to add to your repertoire of maintenance tips to keep you out of the body shop.

Auto Body Tips For Brakes

You tap the break dozens of times a day. So much so you may not even realize something could be going wrong. Brakes are something you want to keep your eye on. Yes, there are fail safes put into new cards by many auto manufacturers, but why take chances. Here are some things to be on the lookout for.

Hit The Brakes

If you notice the brake pedal is sticking or sinking, you need to get it checked out. Failure to do itcould get you or someone around hurt very badly. Beyond just costly autobody repair, your safety could be heavily in jeopardy.

Some other signs to watch out for are noises you know are not supposed to occur. Grinding, squeals, screeching, scratching, bouncing  and knocking are all signs something is not right. Call right away and get your local mechanic to check this out.

You would think I would not have to say this, but if you smell burning that can be a sign of friction and major brake damage and failure. As a general rule, there is not a“good” reason to smell burning with your automobile or any gas powered machine.

Don’t Ignore The Check Light

If you see a light come on for maintenance, do not ignore it. Get it checked out right away.

brake_inspection_suffolkBut why wait..?

Time is no friend of brakes. Have a regular maintenance schedule for you car and brakes. And always have your technician check the brake fluid when you get your oil change.

In Fact..If It Don’t Feel Right

Even if you take your car in and it is not for brake problems, the odds are real good what you thought was brake problems was some other part of auto system that was just as important.

Even Better..Have A Regular Maintenance Schedule

No one has ever regretted over inspecting their brakes. Make sure to have a copy of your recommended maintenance schedule for brakes and then put these in your calendar. If you have a digital calendar, even better. The time to think about braking is not when they are failing.

And If You Need Autobody Repair
