So you car has a dent, or a paint chip, or a scratch. Right now it is not a big deal. The weather in Chesapeake or Portsmouth seems pretty mild. It is easy to rationalize. What is one little dent or scratch? The car is still working, right? Unfortunately it is not that easy. That innocent paint chip may be the size of a penny now. In a few years, months, or weeks that paint chip could cost you a lot more than a penny. The only problem is by that time it will be too late.
Paint Chips, Dents, And Scratches Can Cost You A Lot
One unwanted result of that dent or scratch is it can open up your car to rust. Dents and cracks can allow moisture or water to seep past the protective layer of the paint. This of course leads to rust. Rust inevitably expands destroying the paint, sealant, and ultimately the base frame of the vehicle. As it expands that simple dent will cost a lot more to fix if you wait.
In fact I put a time progression video from Youtube to further illustrate how extensive the damage is going to get. It shows a piece of steel and how much damage can occur on it over time if exposed. Essentially that non assuming little dent or crack can expand over a much larger portion of the vehicle. This could cost thousands to fix and will really hurt the resale value of the vehicle.
Even More Damage Than Just Paint
Potentially long term damage to the metal can more than just cost you a new paint job. That damage to to the metal could weaken the structural integrity of the vehicle. This could potentially compromise the protection from the vehicle in a fender bender or accident.
